read the link.

here's a short sypnosis

"Its not only to reduce the amount of waste and nitrates in the water. More importantly it is to get something out of the tank that would hinder the growth of the fish....A fish expells a growth inhibitor while breathing, and that growth inhibitor remains in the tank/pond, and with enough accumulation due to lack of water changes it hinders the fish in his growth, meaning the fish will stop growing. With water changes the inhibitor will be deluted and reduced in the fishies environment, and the fish can continue to grow. "

Here's another one.

There's actually a very detailed research on this subject but I can't find my bookmark. Maybe someone else has it?

Very good information. good_very.gif

It's a simple experiment that we can try to do too.

In fact, I'm determined to go for a clean water system for my goldfish. My water storage tank( or barrel really ) will be installed with a water pump that is digitally timed ( looking for a digital timer )to inject fresh water into my 4 3-feets tank daily . Old tank water will overflow out through a drainage outlet pipe.

Nothing can be better than fresh water for them. You can see them looking re-juvenated once fresh water comes and their appetite and activeness increased.

Chemistry wise, what is the inhibitor that retards their growth...perhaps some experts could shed some light on it...is the culprit , nitrate or CO2?
